Đó Theatre is a cultural and artistic landmark located on the shores of Nha Trang Bay, in the Bãi Tiên area of northern Nha Trang, Khánh Hòa Province. The first distinctive feature of Đó Theatre lies in its architecture. The theatre draws inspiration from the “đó,” a traditional Vietnamese fishing trap commonly used to catch fish and shrimp. From this simple, rustic object, the building was designed as a “giant fishing trap” resting along the shores of Bãi Tiên, creating a harmonious blend of traditional architecture and a futuristic spirit. Covering an area of approximately 2,500 m², the theatre is situated within the 45-hectare luxury tourism complex of Libera Nha Trang.

More than just an architectural check-in spot, Đó Theatre is positioned as a must-visit artistic destination for travellers to Nha Trang. The theatre hosts elaborately staged indigenous art performances, most notably Rối Mơ – Life Puppets Show and Chum Show.

Rối Mơ – Life Puppets: A Contemporary Evolution of Vietnamese Water Puppetry

Rối Mơ is an unprecedented fusion of traditional Vietnamese water puppetry and a diverse range of innovative puppetry forms, including bamboo puppetry, rod puppetry, land puppetry, shadow puppetry, string puppetry, Tangram puppetry, and animated puppetry, all accompanied by a live ensemble performing traditional Vietnamese music. The show was proudly recognised by the renowned Entrepreneur magazine as “the world’s most unique and captivating performance.”

Highlights of the Show

Handcrafted: Every character, musical instrument, and stage prop is designed and handcrafted by skilled artisans and artists, from the puppet systems, instruments, and specially operated bicycles to the Tangram pieces.

Performed Live: Every element of the production is performed live on stage, from the interactive musical ensemble and various forms of puppetry to animated puppetry and theatrical effects.

Indigenous: The show draws entirely upon Vietnamese indigenous cultural materials, including music, traditional instruments, costumes, props, and traditional art forms, all brought to life through the craftsmanship and creativity of Vietnamese artists and artisans.

Chum Show – A Symphony of Cultural Currents

Inspired by the image of the chum—an everyday earthenware jar that also symbolizes life, the feminine principle, and the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth—Chum Show tells a story of the connection between humanity, nature, and culture. In the Cham language and several languages of the Central Highlands, “chum” can also mean a kiss, conveying a message of love and healing.

The performance brings together three cultural currents—the Cham, Central Highlands, and Kinh traditions—through a combination of folk dance, contemporary circus, aerial acrobatics, and live indigenous music. Together, these elements create an emotionally rich theatrical experience in which cultural heritage is retold through the language of contemporary art.

More than a stage performance, Chum Show is also a distinctive cultural signature of Khánh Hòa, bringing the spirit of this coastal land and its indigenous values closer to both domestic and international audiences.
